Inola woman, volunteer, retiree earns AEP-PSO dollars for doers

December 2, 2009 — Four Rogers County community service agencies have an extra $150 in their coffers thanks to the efforts of a volunteering member.

For the seventh consecutive year, Inola resident and retired AEP-PSO worker Charlene Harrell earned the “Dollars for Doers” grant for her volunteer service to Rogers County United Way, Sigma Chi Chapter ESA, Inola Area Chamber of Commerce and Rogers County Community Services.

Agencies receiving a $150 grant this year from “Dollars for Doers” are Epsilon Sigma Alpha, Safenet Services, Inc., Rogers County United Way, and the Inola Area Chamber of Commerce.

“Dollars for Doers” grants are awarded to organizations based on volunteer efforts of employees and retirees.

Grants are a part of the AEP Connections program to recognize commitment of AEP employees and retirees in their communities as well as support of causes they believe in, said Dr. E. Linn Draper Jr., AEP chairman and CEO.

More than 800 grants were made last year, representing more than 100000 volunteer hours donated by AEP employees, retirees, and their families.

Harrell, who worked at PSO for 13 years before retiring in 1991, has since worked part-time and is responsible for the grants in Rogers County.

She serves on the United Way board of directors and is campaign co-chairman for the Inola drive. She serves on the Inola Chamber board of directors and is affiliated with several other volunteer organizations.
