CATOOSA —
A pedestrian was killed by a swerving Catoosa Police officer’s car this morning, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has confirmed.
She was struck by the vehicle near the 18800 block of East 193rd Avenue near Catoosa at 5:15 a.m. and pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident occurred on Pine Street and forced the road to be closed in both directions.
The officer was traveling east on Pine, when two pedestrians appeared in the middle of the road just over a hill, the OHP said.
The officer swerved, missing one pedestrian and hitting a woman.
According to the OHP the pedestrians were walking with the flow of traffic and not against it as required by law. OHP also reported the woman was wearing dark clothing. The woman, who was in her late teens.
The victim’s name hasn’t been released and the officer has been placed on administrative leave pending investigation.
The involved officer has worked for about a year with the Catoosa Police Department and had previous experience with the Catoosa Public Schools police department. He was unhurt in the accident.
The Catoosa Police Department has declined to comment.
