CLAREMORE —
Every vote counts. Just ask Rogers County District 3 Commissioner Kirt Thacker, who edged his Republican opponent on Tuesday by only 69 votes to move on November’s General Election.
Thacker received 1,116 votes to challenger Gary Richardson’s 1,047. Thacker finished with 52 percent to 48 percent of the vote.
Democrats Scott Gouard and Leon Hershberger also understand the importance of getting the voters to the polls. Gouard won the Rogers County District 3 Commissioner race by 45 votes, but since he didn’t receive 51 percent The two will will face off in a runoff on Tuesday, Aug. 24 for the opportunity to face Thacker.
Gouard garnered 873 votes over Leon Hershberger’s 828 votes. Joe Frank Clark received 370 votes. Gouard had 42 percent, Hershberger 40 percent and Clark 17 percent.
Turnout for the primary election was strong with 27 percent of registered voters casting ballots. Of the 51,080 registered voters, 13,798 voted, according to the Rogers County Election Board.
Incumbent Rogers County Assessor Scott Marsh led challenger Robin Anderson in the Republican race with 3,626 votes to 3,180 (53 percent to 47 percent).
On the Democratic side Brian Wilson led Chris Whipkey for the opportunity to challege for the assessor’s seat with 4,145 to 1,458 (74 percent to 26 percent.)
Janice Steidley overwhelmed Democratic opponent Patrick Abitbol in Rogers County in the race to replace their current boss District Attorney Gene Haynes. Steidley garnered 3,774 votes to Abitbol’s 2,078 or 63 percent to 37 percent. In Craig County, Steidley received 942 votes to Abitbol’s 635; and in Mayes County she won by a 2,408 to 1169 vote.
Republican Blake Lewis defeated Larry Dealy 1,276 to 686 (61 percent to 39 percent). The winner will face incumbent Dan DeLozier, who drew no opponent in the Democratic primary.
In Rogers County, Sen. Randy Brogdon of Owasso won over the overall winner Rep. Mary Fallin in the Republican primary for governor. Brogdon received 60 percent of the vote, 4,249 to Fallin’s 36 percent, 2,597. Fallin was a runaway winner statewide.
Attorney General Drew Edmondson also won Rogers County but lost statewide to Lt. Gov. Jari Askins. Edmondson received 52 percent of the vote to Askins’ 48 percent - 3,129 to 2,798. Statewide Askins won by less than 2,000 votes and will face Fallin in November.

Claremore Christmas parade postponed
Claremore’s annual Christmas parade has been rescheduled due to the “high likelihood” of inclement weather, according to Dell Davis with the Claremore Chamber of Commerce. Initially set for Saturday the parade has been rescheduled for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8 as forecasters have issued a 90 percent chance of precipitation all day Saturday, with a high chance for thunderstorms and heavy rain.
