Donald R. Wofford and Beverly J. (Oskison) Wofford of Oologah are celebrating 50 years of marriage. The couple was wed on Aug. 2, 1957, at the First Christian Church in Vinita.
Don was born in Oologah, the son of Bronk and Elsie Wofford. Beverly was born in Vinita, the daughter of Ray and Lady Alleene Oskison.
The couple met while attending Northeastern Oklahoma A&M; Junior College in Miami. Both continued their education, graduating from Northeastern State in Tahlequah. Don completed a Masters in Education and Beverly earned a Masters in Reading.
Don taught and coached at Oklahoma Military Academy for 18 years and completed his career in education by working for the State Department of Education for 20 years. Beverly taught for 32 years and retired in 1995 from the Oologah Public Schools. The couple enjoyed many avocations. Don refereed football and basketball. Beverly devotes much of her time to the grandchildren’s school activities.
The couple has traveled extensively and enjoyed many areas of America and Europe. Today they enjoy traveling, attending ball games and raising cattle. Don is an avid golfer.
The couple’s family includes children: Twyla and Kendall Overton, and Cheryl and David Semkoff, all of Oologah; grandchildren: Ashlee and Mallory Overton, and Jared and Jessica Semkoff.
