Richard Darrell and Gloria Ann (Caffey) Harrington are celebrating 50 years of marriage. The couple was married April 5, 1958, at the First Methodist Church of Claremore.
Darrell is the son of the late L.R. and Dottie Harrington. Gloria is the daughter of the late James Otis and Rebecca (Marlar) Caffey. Darrell attended school at Inola for 10 years until moving to Claremore. Gloria attended Claremore Schools for 12 years.
The couple met during their freshman year at a Claremore Legion baseball game in Pryor.
Both graduated from Claremore in 1955. They attended Northeastern State University where Darrell played baseball and both received bachelor’s degrees in 1959 and master’s degrees at Western State College of Colorado in 1967.
They spent the next 29 years teaching and coaching in Oklahoma schools including Catoosa and Oologah.
The couple lived 23 years at Falconhead Country Club and Golf Resort in southern Oklahoma until moving to Pryor in 2006. Darrell has been a member of BPOE #1230 since 1958. They attend the First Christian-Presbyterian Church in Pryor.
The couple have one son, Rick. He and his wife, Paula, live in Verdigris. Grandchildren are Travis of Ada, Hannah of Tulsa, and Annie of Tulsa.
The couple is planning a trip to Green Mts. of Vermont in May. Although a local celebration is not planned they say the coffee pot is always on at their home in Pryor.
